One of our great strengths is the importance we place in the personal character development of each student, building her individual resilience and ability to shine as a local and global citizen.
Ensuring every girl’s wellbeing is a central priority to how we structure her learning and personal development. By providing an environment that is safe and supportive, and offering a wide range of academic, social and personal opportunities, girls develop confidence in themselves and their surroundings, and can create a strong, positive connection with life’s journey.
ENSURING A BALANCE
Our approach to wellbeing mirrors our approach to learning, recognising the importance of nurturing both academic development and social-emotional growth. We believe that for a girl to reach her potential she must feel safe and supported.
In the Junior School, wellbeing events promote a sense of community and togetherness and encourage girls to be supportive of each other. As a community, we focus on creating a positive and happy learning environment and promoting a sense of belonging among students.
In the Senior School, we divide our student body into two distinct phases: Middle Years (7-9) and Senior Years (10-12), acknowledging the unique developmental needs of each phase.
In the Middle Years, we prioritise social and emotional learning as foundational to academic success. We emphasise the importance of strong relationships between teachers and students, fostering a sense of belonging and support as students navigate the early years of high school.
During the Middle Years, students explore their identities and relationships, laying the groundwork for social-emotional growth and character development. Through meaningful connections and transformative experiences, students build the foundations with skills and resilience needed to navigate adolescence.
In the Senior Years, our focus shifts towards preparing students for their future pathways. Our teams provide career guidance and support independent academic inquiry, equipping students for tertiary education and independence. Through mentoring and personalised support, we empower students as they transition into adulthood, offering insight and encouragement along the way.
A PROVEN PROGRAM
Our pastoral care program aims to complement the Australian Curriculum, supporting each girl while promoting a strong and appreciative community, and maximising holistic learning.
The program reflects our deep appreciation for diversity within the community, and is guided and informed by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). The ACARA emphasises the importance of knowledge, understanding and skills of learning areas, general capabilities and cross-curriculum priorities as the basis for a program designed to support 21st century learning. It is also guided by CASEL’s model for Social Emotional Learning, as well as Outdoor Education Australia and Kambala’s Philosophy for Dispositional Learning.
It is designed to establish comprehensive school-wide pastoral care and centres around developmental areas defined by specific competencies:
Self-management
Relationship skills
Responsible decision making
These are inhabited by our Kambala Philosophy for Dispositional Learning where the following key areas are reflected in our values:
