Leadership
Our goal is to cultivate the leaders of tomorrow, instilling in girls the values of moral-driven leadership and innovative thinking, so they may graduate with maturity, resilience and resourcefulness, and a broad global perspective.
We actively promote leadership among all our girls, emphasising the importance of leading with purpose and vision. Student leadership opportunities are diverse and span across both Junior and Senior School levels. By assigning leadership roles within specific age or cohort groups, we aim to create a sense of ownership, community and unity among classmates. This approach empowers girls to take on leadership responsibilities and encourages collaboration and cooperation within their peer groups.
We believe every girl at Kambala should have the opportunity to develop her leadership capability whether through a formal position or throughout the process of her learning journey.
As young women, our high school years are some of the most impressionable moments of our lives. It’s during this time that we discover who we are, who we want to become, and what matters to us. That is why I am forever proud and grateful to stand before a group of girls who have not only walked alongside me through these years but have also shaped my character, challenged me to grow, and inspired me to think deeply every single day."
2025 Head Prefect, Sophie Alexander
Leadership qualities are apparent in many of the girls at our school, and whilst some are selected for official leadership roles, I continue to be amazed at the talent and leadership disposition of many of the girls in our care, they all are truly remarkable in the making."
Principal, Jane Danvers
Leadership opportunities in the Junior School
We provide leadership opportunities from Year 2, where students are seen as the leaders of Massie House (Preparation to Year 2). They have the opportunity to compere a number of key Massie events including the Massie Prize Assembly, Massie House Grandparents’ Day, Massie House Open Day Concert and Massie House Art Show.
From Year 3 to Year 6, students are elected Class Captain and Vice-Captain on a termly basis. Students in Year 6 have the opportunity to be elected as House Officers, Junior School Vice-Captain and Junior School Captain. These roles are linked to their studies of the United Nations Global Goals and Government, STEM Investigative Showcase and Year 6 Experiential Learning trip.
In Year 6, Music Officers are also selected rather than elected, based on contribution to and participation in the Music program. Year 6 girls are also able to volunteer to be part of the broader wellbeing committee. The wellbeing committee asks students to serve and support specific wellbeing initiatives linked to student and community wellbeing.
Leadership opportunities in the Senior School
Senior School provides a robust Prefect system comprising 16 portfolios, including positions such as Head Prefect, Deputy Head Prefect, Environment Prefect, Cultural & Global Connections Prefect, Advocacy Prefect, Drama Prefect, Debating Prefect, STEM Prefect, Wellbeing Prefect and Head Boarding Prefect.
In addition, Year 12 students can apply for eight House leadership roles, allowing them to contribute to the school community in various capacities. Senior officer positions are also available for students in Year 11.
Students can also participate in the Student Representative Council and Peer Support positions. Furthermore, girls are encouraged to take on responsibility for clubs and service initiatives, developing leadership skills and a sense of service within the student body. This multi-faceted approach to student leadership ensures that students have ample opportunities to develop their leadership potential and make meaningful contributions to the school community.
