Helping every new student feel at home

Encouraging connection amongst year groups is an essential part of life here at Kambala. From our House system to Sisterhood Circles, we have seen friendships blossom from our youngest girls through to our Year 12 prefects.

We know that starting a new school can be daunting, especially outside of Year 7. That’s why our Student Wellbeing Committee introduced the New Student Ambassador initiative, supporting girls joining Kambala in Years 8–11.

Wellbeing Prefect Olivia B shares, “we want students joining outside of Year 7 to also experience a smooth transition. We send new students welcome letters and ensure they have buddies to help them navigate their way around the school, whether that’s finding classrooms or answering simple questions in their first few weeks.”

Each year group now has dedicated Student Ambassadors, helping new students build connections within their cohort and across year levels. The initiative began with morning tea, where students took part in a ‘getting to know you bingo’ activity designed to spark conversation and connection.

These early connections are already helping to strengthen the sense of belonging that defines the Kambala Sisterhood.
