Taylor has been working with Kambala’s junior school to bring students along for the
build in Rose Bay, not just hand them a finished building.
Our team is currently on site delivering the Kambala Multi-Purpose Auditorium and
Sports Precinct. Beneath what will become a new elevated oval, a new facility is taking
shape, one that will bring together performance spaces, basketball courts, dance
studios, and flexible learning rooms that generations of students will rely on.
Taylor invited the junior school to enter a naming competition for the crane on site.
Students submitted their ideas. A panel of judges voted. The winner was Kranebala, a
name that folds Kambala’s own identity into the piece of construction equipment sitting
at the heart of their campus.
The two students whose entry took the vote, along with their class, came down to site.
They attached the flag to the crane themselves, and watched it climb. It will be flying
above the school from now on.
That moment mattered because of what it reflected, not what it produced. Taylor is a
guest on every site it enters. The communities around those sites, and in this case the
community the building will serve for decades, are the reason the project exists. Finding
genuine ways to include them in the process is part of how we work.
