The Altius Global Study Prep Program

The Year 9 Altius program this year brought together pairs of houses for fortnightly global studies sessions. Designed as part of Kambala’s bespoke approach to developing global-minded learners, these sessions were organised by Future Pathways Advisor Ian Pettit. Each meeting offered interactive activities, guest speakers, and opportunities for students to broaden their understanding of the world and their place within it.

A central component of Altius was the Global Study Prep program, which encouraged students to think beyond the classroom and consider their future roles in a global community. Students developed early career plans, explored their interests through the MyFuture website, practised interview skills, and built confidence for future work experience, volunteering, and part-time employment.

Global citizenship was a key theme throughout the semester, particularly during our community service focus. Emily and Tali from Kids Giving Back introduced students to their volunteering app and its digital passport for logging service hours. They also led hands-on activities, including the “backpack challenge,” and highlighted meaningful service opportunities such as Bushcare initiatives, PCYC holiday camps, and Plates 4 Mates. These sessions emphasised the importance of empathy, social responsibility, and contributing to the broader community.

We also heard from Year 11 students Amelia and Edie, who reflected on their own community service journeys. Their stories showcased the impact that volunteering can have—both on the community and on personal growth—and offered encouragement to younger students beginning their own paths of service.

Overall, the Altius program deepened students’ understanding of global mindedness, pathways beyond school, and the value of community engagement. We are grateful to Emily and Tali from Kids Giving Back, Amelia and Edie from Year 11, and Mr Pettit for shaping such a rich and meaningful learning experience.
