Global Citizenship in action – Skye’s story

Year 11 student Skye’s story is a perfect example of a student who demonstrates the values of the Global Citizenship Diploma, which is in its first official year at Kambala.

Skye is the co-founder of Cosy Companion, a non-profit organisation founded in late 2024 that provides volunteer visits to nursing homes across Sydney.

Cosy Companion identified a gap in fostering connections for older people in society. The founders noticed that nearly half of residents in aged care facilities never receive visitors, while many facilities wanted student involvement but lacked structured programs. Cosy Companion bridges this gap by facilitating organised visits between students and residents. The program allows students to apply and join small groups for visits. During these visits, students contribute their talents through music, storytelling, and creative activities, helping to enrich the experience for residents.

Skye’s efforts demonstrate the GCD core value of community engagement, as she has shown a consistent commitment to serving others in her local community.
