Year 11 Students Delve into Advanced Mathematics Workshops at the University of Sydney

During Term 2, a group of 12 Year 11 students had the exciting opportunity to visit the University of Sydney to take part in a Mathematical Enrichment Day. The event was specially designed to deepen their understanding of mathematics and to challenge them with concepts beyond the standard school curriculum.

Throughout the day, the students attended four carefully selected sessions, each introducing a range of fascinating and advanced mathematical ideas. These sessions encouraged them to think critically, tackle complex problems, and apply mathematical reasoning in creative and innovative ways.

They also had the privilege of hearing from a variety of passionate and highly knowledgeable lecturers, each specialising in different fields of mathematics. The engaging presentations not only expanded the students’ appreciation for the subject but also highlighted the diverse opportunities mathematics can offer beyond high school. From applied mathematics and statistics to theoretical research and real-world problem-solving, the students came away inspired by the many exciting career paths and academic pursuits available to them.
