Stride

To commemorate the 135th birthday of the School, KOG commissioned renowned sculptor Donna Marcus to create a symbolic work for the School which was unveiled in February 2023.

Two leading art advisors, Sally Dan Cuthbert (’85) and Libby Knott (’88), assisted the KOG Arts Committee by conducting a national search for an established female Australian artist who specialises in public art, and who could create a long-lasting legacy for the School.

The selected artist, Donna Marcus – who has been exhibited widely nationally and internationally and is held in many private and public collections – worked closely with the art advisors, KOG and Jane Danvers, to create Stride. Donna spent hours trawling through the Kambala archives with archivist Laura Carmichael. She was inspired by the many achievements of our Old Girls, particularly in aviation, and this shone through in the layers of storytelling in her final work. Stride talks to the School’s history and future, the commitment to STEM, and the extraordinary achievements that can be seen in our Old Girls network.

This significant work is installed in the Tivoli Forecourt and provides girls with a visual encapsulation of Kambala’s history and future.
