Exploring Future Pathways, Chloe at Curious Minds Canberra

Exploring future pathways is an important part of school life at Kambala. From Year 9, students are supported by Future Pathways Advisor Mr Ian Pettit, who helps them discover the many opportunities available beyond school. Seeing students embrace these opportunities reflects our strong value of being curious learners.

One example of this in action is Year 10 student Chloe, who recently took part in the Curious Minds STEM Canberra Summer Camp. This highly selective, invitation-only program recognises strong performance in national competitions such as the Big Science Competition and the Australian Mathematics Competition.

Designed to introduce young women to study and careers in STEM, the program offers mentorship, enrichment activities, and hands-on learning experiences. During the camp, Chloe participated in workshops on coding and robotics, conducted experiments across a range of environments, and visited laboratories, universities, national facilities, and Questacon.

Reflecting on her experience, Chloe shared that meeting scientists and engineers working on real-world projects made her “more curious about the role of women in STEM and how they are shaping Australia’s future.” She describes the experience as eye-opening, introducing her to new ways of learning while also connecting with like-minded peers.
