Athletics

The energy and enthusiasm of Kambala girls to participate and win points for their House is evident at the Senior Athletics carnival.

The Kambala Athletics squad prepares for the Term 3 Athletics season with four IGSA Invitational Twilight Meets. These are very popular, with Kambala fielding one of the largest teams as girls strive to achieve their personal best. Girls are selected in the Kambala team to represent the School at the IGSA Track and Field Championships held at Sydney Olympic Park. Our athletes have represented Kambala at NSWCIS, All Schools, School Sport Australia and Oceania or World Junior Championships.

BADMINTON

Badminton is the newest sport to be introduced to the sporting program, and is proving to be very popular, to the point that the Badminton Academy was introduced in Term 2 2024. The girls attend the Academy each week to continue to hone their skills at our home of Badminton, Badminton Worx in Botany.

Basketball

Basketball is offered during the winter terms at Kambala and also on a Wednesday afternoon in Term 1. It is one of our most popular sports and is designed to suit a range of skill levels. Basketball training occurs once a week with an additional skills and fitness session offered on a second day per week. Basketball training takes place at Christison Park and at Kambala, with games being played on a Saturday in the IGSA competition.

Cross Country

Cross Country numbers have increased each year with the Senior girls rising to the challenge of competing over 3 or 4 kms at the annual Cross Country carnival.Training is offered three mornings a week at Lyne Park. ‘Running Club’ is an integral part of Kambala culture and all ages and abilities are encouraged to attend the sessions that cater for recreational to elite athletes.

Gold Squad

The Gold Squad is a Talent Identification and Development program. Students are invited to participate in a specialised athletic program based on their rankings from Fitness Testing. A limited number of students are invited to ensure individualised attention and support.

Hockey

Hockey is a niche sport and we have keen and committed players participating in the Term 2 and 3 winter season of the IGSA competition. The Hockey cohort trains under the tutelage of our Head Coach on the synthetic pitch at UNSW Daceyville. The girls are encouraged to commit to attending the strength and conditioning and speed and agility sessions.

Netball

Netball is our biggest winter sport at Kambala. Our programme is varied and extensive, with training offered to suit all levels of skill. We offer a range of training opportunities including team training once a week plus skill development and fitness. Girls also have the opportunity to develop their umpiring skills through a mentor style umpiring programme. Netball training is held at Waverley indoor and outdoor courts, Christison Park and Kambala courts. Competitions are played on Saturday through Randwick Netball Association and IGSA.

Soccer

Football at Kambala is a popular winter sport that caters for all ability levels. The football program aims to develop each student’s passion for the game, in addition to developing their technical qualities and tactical understandings. Our football staff are experienced in delivering specific programs based on the needs of each individual’s developmental stage (Skill Acquisition, Game Training or Performance Phase). Our footballing model consists of improving the individual, which will ultimately improve the team. Our holistic program also promotes personal growth, and encourages students to develop confidence, collaboration, resilience and leadership skills. The Kambala Football Program competes in the IGSA Competition which is held on Saturday mornings in Terms 2 and 3.

Speed and Agility

Speed and agility sessions are conducted each Monday and Wednesday morning on the Kambala oval. The sessions are aimed at improving all girls’ speed and agility for their chosen sport.

Snowsports

Kambala participates in the Sydney Division Interschools Skiing and Snowboarding Championships. These races are held during the last week of the July school holidays. The Championships are open to any student from Kindergarten to Year 12. Girls compete in teams in Year group divisions and may compete in Alpine, Moguls, Skier Cross, Cross Country Skiing, Snowboard GS and Snowboard Cross. Our Snowsports team progresses to State and National Championships.

SWIMMING

Kambala is renowned for being a Division 1 IGSA School with representative swimmers progressing to NSW All Schools, School Sport Australia and the Olympic Trials. The Senior Carnival is held at Sydney Aquatic Centre giving our girls the opportunity to post qualifying times for major meets and giving all students the experience of competing for their House in the Olympic venue.

Strength and Conditioning

Students are offered a strength and conditioning program based in the Fitness room throughout the year. Any girl can attend these sessions and Kambala has a partnership with Axis Sydney who facilitate the program with their fully qualified coaching team.

TENNIS

Tennis is a year round sport at Kambala and offers a unique blend of physical activity, mental agility and social interactions. Girls are able to participate in competition style Tennis which is played on a Saturday morning or private and group lessons which take place during the week. Our Tennis coaches are of a very high standard and include a former professional player. Tennis training and lessons occur at Kambala and Lyne Park Tennis courts. We participate in the IGSA competition played on Saturday mornings.

Tildesley tennis

The Tildesley Shield Tournament is a historic and prestigious event which Kambala is a part of each year. Our elite level Tennis players participate in this event, with training occurring year round. It provides an opportunity for our students to showcase their talent, dedication, and sportsmanship on a larger stage and fosters team and school spirit. The Tildesley Shield takes place each year in March at Pennant Hills Park.

Touch Football

Touch is the premier and most popular summer sport at Kambala. Teams play in the Eastern Suburbs Touch competition in Terms 1 and 4. Kambala has a fine tradition of players gaining selection in representative teams to play at State Cup, Regional and National Championships. The Touch program is designed to progress players from learning the basics of the game to the performance phase of the game focusing on execution of skills, moves and the defensive policy.

Water Polo

During the summer season and Friday nights in Term 3, Water Polo is offered to all Kambala students. All Water Polo training takes place at the Playfair Pool. In addition to their team training sessions, skills and fitness sessions are offered to all girls. Water Polo is played on a Saturday morning through the IGSA competition in Term 1 and 4, and on Friday evenings as part of the MLC competition in Term 3.
