Athletics

The Junior Athletics carnival aims to encourage girls from Year 3 to 6 to strive to achieve their personal best in track and field events. The Kambala Athletics team is selected to represent the School at Invitational events and the IPSHA Track and Field Championships at Sydney Olympic Park. Our athletes have represented Kambala at NSWCIS and NSW PSSA Championships.

BADMINTON

2024 sees the introduction of the Term 3 Badminton Academy for girls in Years 4-6. Girls learn the basic skills of badminton and progress to match play. Our team of experienced coaches will encourage each student to hone her skills and knowledge of the game.

Basketball

Basketball is a popular sport at Kambala and we are fortunate to have the Head Coaches involved in developing a progressive program of skills for our students. Our Year 3 cohort have clinics at the start of Term 1 and transition into playing in an ungraded competition against SCEGGS and Ascham at SCEGGS and Sydney University. Our students in Years 4-6 play Basketball in the Term 4 IPSHA competition against schools from across the metropolitan area of Sydney.

Cross Country

Every Junior School girl from Years 3-6 rises to the challenge of competing over 2km or 3kms at the Kambala Cross Country Carnival held each year at Centennial Park. Cross Country training is offered with our experienced coaches at Lyne Park in preparation for the IPSHA Carnival. Kambala has a fine tradition of individuals and teams progressing to NSWCIS and the PSSA Championships.

Gymnastics

Kambala has an Artistic Gymnastics program offered after school in the gym. A team is selected to compete across the levels at the IPSHA Gymnastics Carnival .

MINKEY

The skills of Minkey are introduced to the girls in Term 2 of Year 3 through clinics and an ungraded local competition. The focus of Minkey is to develop the striking and defensive skills and strategies in a small sided modified game. Years 4 to 6 play in the IPSHA Minkey competition in preparation for Hockey in Senior School.

Netball

Netball is the most popular sport in Junior School. The Kambala program is varied and extensive, with training offered to suit all levels of skill. We offer a range of training opportunities including team training once a week and specialist netball clinics. In Term 1 we offer netball clinics for girls wanting to extend their netball skills before the competition begins in Term 2. Year 3 play in a local competition and Year 4 to 6 play in the IPSHA competition against schools from across Sydney.

SAILING

The Learn to Sail program is offered in conjunction with coaches based at Vaucluse Sailing Club on Sydney Harbour. Learn to sail is offered on Saturday mornings for Years 4-6 in Term 1 and 4. The goal of the program is to progress the participants from beginners in PJ’s (Pittwater Juniors) to sailing Pacers.

Snowsports

Kambala participates in the Sydney Division Interschools Snowsports Championships. The races are held during the last week of the July school holidays. The Championships are open to any student from Kindergarten to Year 12. Girls compete in teams in Year group divisions and may compete in Alpine, Moguls, Skier Cross, Cross Country Skiing, Snowboard GS and Snowboard Cross. Kambala students progress as individuals and teams to the NSW and Australian Championships.

SOCCER

5 a side Soccer at Kambala is a popular sport that caters to all ability levels. The soccer program aims to develop each student’s passion for the game, in addition to developing their technical and tactical skills. Our coaching staff are experienced in delivering specific programs based on the needs of the girls’ developmental stage . Year 3 participate in Clinics and transition into playing ungraded games in a local competition. Years 4-6 play in the IPSHA competition.

Strength and Conditioning

Year 6 students are offered an introduction to strength and conditioning each Thursday afternoon. Kambala has a partnership with Axis Sydney and they facilitate a program suitable for the girls’ age and skill level with their fully qualified coaching team.

Swimming

Swimming is a major part of the Kambala sporting landscape program with our girls beginning to learn to swim in PDHPE in Preparation at the Playfair Pool. Swimming is included each year in the PDHPE program throughout Junior School. The Junior Swim Carnival is held at Des Renford Aquatic Centre and girls from Years 3 to 6 compete for selection in the IPSHA team. Kambala is known for strong performances at the IPSHA Carnival with team members progressing to NSWCIS and State. Our girls can participate in squad training and competitions with Tivoli Swim Club.

TENNIS

Tennis has a long and rich tradition at Kambala, offering a unique combination of physical exercise, mental sharpness, and social engagement. Our highly skilled tennis coaches include a former professional player. A key event in the sporting calendar is the Junior School Tennis Championships, which awards titles to both singles and doubles champions. Additionally, girls can compete in the IPSHA Tennis Competition, held on Saturday mornings during Term 4. Tennis is open for girls from Years 3 – 6.

TOUCH

Touch is a popular Term 3 sport with Kambala fielding teams in the IPSHA competition. Touch Clinics are held for girls who wish to further enhance their skills and knowledge of the game. Kambala is well known for our Touch program with our experienced Head Coaches working with the girls from when they first learn the basics of touch in Year 4 through the skill acquisition phase to the elite teams in Senior School.
